Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals Fantasy Football Matchup Breakdown For Week 9
John Laghezza breaks down the Week 9 matchup between the Falcons and the Bengals for fantasy football.
Recovering from a citywide sigh of relief by barely escaping the basement-dwelling Titans, Cincinnati’s off to the dirty-dirty where Atlanta’s beyond ready to wipe away the memory of Sunday’s rain-soaked loss to Tampa Bay.

Cincinnati Bengals Fantasy Preview For Week 9
What’s the most undersung key to a great fantasy offense? A bad defense — and if Cincy continues this bottom-5 trajectory over the last month (5.7 yards allowed/play, 50.3% success), Joe Burrow will keep on putting up strong days at the fantasy office. Currently the overall QB2, Joey B actually jumps into the pole position in points/game (29.2) since Week 4. Surrounded by elite talents at WR, he’s recently overtaken the NFL lead in both passing yards/game (302.1) and TDs (20). Also worth noting, in spite of low rushing volume (3.1% scramble, 10.0 rush yards/game), the few takeoffs we get occur optimally (2 rushing TDs, 4th; 11 first downs, 8th).
As a big Chase Brown drafter, backer and habitual first-half dip-buyer, I’m riding high after that Week 8 shakeout. Despite a fumble lost, Cincinnati showed precisely where their loyalties lie when the chips are down. Brown played 84% of second-half snaps, earning all 100% of backfield opportunities, including six targets in a gotta-have-it spot versus the Titans. Neither Bengal RB’s running particularly well this season, so unless CIN makes a move in the trade market, we could be setting up for another legendary second half from Brown, who’s making that a bit of a brand. Hey, it’s not how you start but where you finish …
Cincy’s always made the receiving game easy as pie, with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins sucking up all the oxygen in the room. Each half of the dynamic duo’s scoring over +0.54 points/route, and +18.3 points/game, while earning +8.5 targets for +93.5 air yards/game. After Sunday’s explosion versus TEN, they also own three of the possible six top-3 WR finishes over the last two weeks. Crazy stuff.
Lastly, while Mike Gesicki popped off for his second top-5 finish of 2026 (4-76-1), his advanced metrics (14.2% target/route, 1.43 yards/route) still lack consistent fantasy appeal. With that, his five end zone targets rank 15th in the NFL, and deserves streaming attention whenever their game total’s north of 50.
- Start: Joe Burrow (QB1), Chase Brown (RB13), Ja’marr Chase (WR3), Tee Higgins (WR7)
- Sit: Dohnte Meyers (WR98)
- Sleeper: Mike Gesicki (TE16)
Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Preview For Week 9
Great example here of betting markets serving to ground us in reality, when it would be all but too easy to quit on these Falcons after that debacle Sunday. How bad was Michael Penix analytically? Here comes the best stat from that Tampa game and perhaps all year — Baker Mayfield completed literally zero passes, yet still delivered a passer rating (39.6) more than triple Penix’s (12.0). Horrific weather conditions aside, it’s as much a statement on the Bucs D, perhaps the best unit in the game over the last month. This weekend, however, it’s the spiraling Bengal defense on the schedule, which just allowed the Titans to gain 440 yards when they hadn’t previously eclipsed 322 all season. Michael Penix should be back on the menu as a streaming option; he’s still got surrounding talent, plus two top-8 finishes in three weeks on the ledger.
Even in a disastrous outing like Sunday’s shutout, it’s beyond my comprehension that there’s a situation where Bijan Robinson earns just a single target in a hugely negative game script. Again, Tampa adopting a Brian Flores-like ultra-heavy box approach played a determinative role, but still, the point stands. Can we please get one of the world’s best players out in the flat? Nevertheless, Bijan’s obviously locked into fantasy rosters with a great chance for a major bounce back against a struggling Bengals’ rushing defense, grading bottom-5 in yards/carry (4.8), yards after contact/rush (3.58), +20-yard attempts (9), and explosive rush rate (10.7%). First RB1 week in a month finally reloading …
Essentially, I’m smashing the reset button on Atlanta’s offense and letting the chips fall where they may. If the Titans can squeeze two separate WR1 finishes out of one game without their best receiver, I’m wiping Drake London’s (1-8-0) nightmare from my memory bank immediately — he’s still smashing the spreadsheets playing with Penix (8.5 targets/game, 29.5% target/route, 3.03 yards/route). Same goes for Kyle Pitts, who’s winding up on rage-drop lists again after his first clunker in a month. Cincy’s still struggling to defend tight ends, allowing the NFL’s second-most catches (7.0) and receiving yards per game (88.7) to the position. Keep an eye on your league transactions; one manager’s trash is another’s treasure. Lastly, keep a nightlight on for Jahan Dotson as a flexworthy option in elevated game totals. Even if the weekly ceiling’s low, the former first-rounder has emerged as Penix’s clear third WR/TE option.
